Amityville Dominican sister
who resides in Bayside, New York
and co-ordinates Heart to Heart Ministry.
Sister has taught on the primary level
and in special education.
Presently Sister Ave gives retreats
and spiritual presentations.
She is also a Pastoral Counselor
and sees people for hope and healing.
On her prayer line she listens and
offers people comfort and compassion.

POST TRAUMATIC STRESS DISORDER
PTSD........this condition is a physiological, emotional, psychological and behavioral disorder caused by traumatic events outside the range of usual human experience: threats to life or physical integrity, serious threats or harm committed against one's children, spouse or other close relatives or friends, sudden destruction of property, home or community, and witnessing serious injury or death from an accident or act of violence. All may violate the survivor's safety,integrity and radically alter his or her sense of internal equilibrium and identity. War, suicide, abuse and violence leave deep scars that sometimes take years to show its affects, but slowly the human spirit feels these scars and the life of one is left to flee , flight..or get emotional healing. It takes courage, great support and understanding of this horrendous journey filled with nightmares and fears. One dares to step forward, out into life believing the lovinghand of God will not let us suffer torment forever. Anxiety and panic attacks rip into what should be so ordinary to deal with ; but suffering from PTSD ,myself, I well ( Sister Ave Clark,O.P.) understand the inner resiliency needed again and again to get up and keep on...go slowly...show mercy and above all kindness to yourself and find it also in those who dare to understand.
    
In the book , Lights In The Darkness by Sister Ave Clark,O.P. on page 87-88 Sister has ten mercy beads that have helped her time and time again:

Lord, walk with me.
Lord, be gentle and help me to be gentle with my pain.
Lord, show me your mercy in the ordinary events of each day.
Lord, help me to rest, and stay calm.
Lord, fill my emptiness with your presence.
Lord, comfort my aching spirit and help me to comfort others.
Lord, help me to close my eyes and to sleep in peace.
Lord,teach me to take time with myself for healing.
Lord, be my constant and loyal friend.
Lord, help me to be Valiant.
